Thanks to all who attended the first talk in our Holtzclaw Lecture Series, hosted by the Margaret Walker Center at JSU. Dr. William Andrews from UNC-Chapel Hill delivered a fascinating talk, analyzing Holtzclaw’s autobiography in terms of his larger context. Through a comparison with William Pickens, Andrews drew on his expertise with African American autobiography to discuss the unique challenges of self-presentation Holtzclaw navigated in order to tell his story.
